Hi friends,
I have just an abbreviated newsletter for you today. My mom is likely in the last week of her life, so I was visiting and helping family this week. I’d be grateful for your prayers in that direction.
Some recent recommendations for you:
I benefitted from the conversation here on Let’s Talk: When Others Fall Away. Jasmine Holmes talks a bit about how she “deconstructed,” with a view towards unhitching some cultural standards from what Scripture teaches.
Did you see that Disney is opening a planned community based around the experiences of its resorts and parks? The first location is planned for Rancho Mirage, California. The vision for the communities is “expanding storytelling to storyliving,” which is proof to me that (a) humans do desire to be caught up in a story; and (b) seeking this out in an utterly artificial experience is how some people plan to do so.
I’ve recommended Jane and Jesus before, but I especially enjoyed this episode with Dr. Anika Prather, centering around her experience as a black woman reading Austen, and what’s part of the literary canon. In my opinion, KSP is hitting it out of the park with these conversations.
